A judicial inquiry was opened after the death Sunday morning of a one month old infant in a nursery of the 13th district managed by the city of Paris, announced the capital Mayor Bertrand Delanoë. "I wish to express my desolation after the dramatic death of a child of a month this morning at the day nursery Michelet in the 13th arrondissement of Paris", said this in a press release. "I offer my support to the staff of the Michelet nursery, I know particularly affected by this terrible event, and which, despite its exceptional gravity, must continue its mission in the largest possible serenity in the best interests of children and families", said the Mayor of Paris. He also sent his condolences to the family of the victim.

The first elements of the investigation entrusted to the minors brigade, the infant was found about 8 a.m. Sunday morning, semi-conscient before dying, with a three-year-old boy. The hypothesis that the child would have thrown to the ground the baby is examined by investigators. Traces of bites have been found on the victim, said a police source

An autopsy of the body of the infant will be performed Monday, completed a judicial source. The Mayor of Paris asked that an administrative inquiry is "immediately open" in this institution managed by the Directorate of social action, children and health of the city of Paris, in charge of the reception of children less than 3 years in difficulty or danger, placed by their families or by court action
